INDICATIONS
Cefpirome sulfate for injection is indicated for the treatment of the following infections caused by unknown pathogens or known susceptible bacteria: lower respiratory tract infections (bronchopneumonia and lobar pneumonia). Combined upper (pyelonephritis) and lower urinary tract infections. Skin and soft tissue infections (cellulitis, skin abscesses and wound infections). Infections in neutropenic patients. Bacteremia/septicemia. Serious infection as listed above.
Adverse reactions
Allergic reactions: allergic skin reactions; rash, urticaria, pruritus, drug fever; severe acute allergic reactions are possible: angioedema, bronchospasm, urgent treatment required. As with other cephalosporins, isolated cases of erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and toxic epithelial necrolysis have also been reported.
Gastrointestinal effects: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea; in rare cases pseudomembranous colitis.
